Travel Grants

Deadline: January 31, 2014

Limited funds will be available to help students and young scientists attend the  Meeting. Funds help to offset travel and travel-related expenses. Preference will be given to those presenting a paper. Those interested should submit the application form and required paperwork by January 31, 2014.


Session Room Monitors Needed

We are pleased to offer registered Students & Postdocs attending the 2014 ACA Meeting the opportunity to defray meeting expenses by participating as Session Room Monitors. Session Room Monitors operate audiovisual equipment, and room lighting, photograph the speakers (cameras provided), track and record attendance, and perform other tasks requested by the session chairs. Monitors will be compensated at a rate of $10 per hour. You must commit to at least one, full-day (8:00a.m.-5:00p.m. or when the session ends). Positions are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like to participate, please complete this form and submit it by March 31, 2014 to:  [email protected]


Events Just For You

Young Scientists Meeting Orientation

Our focus is to orient new 'young scientists' and first time attendees to the structure of the ACA Meeting and how to make the most of their experience. The orientation is scheduled for Saturday, May 24 at 5:30pm and will last about an hour.


Rayonix-Young Scientists SIG Mixer 

High energy fun, great food and some of the most exciting venues make the Young Scientists Mixer a great place to connect with scientists ranging in experience and disciplines. The Young Scientist Mixer is one of the meeting's most popular events and is FREE to registered Students & Postdocs (ticket required). The mixer will be held at Ibiza Bar, the rooftop bar within the Andaluz Hotel. The hotel is located within walking distance of the convention center. The Mixer is on Sunday, May 25, beginning at 8:00pm This event is sponsored in part, by Rayonix.


The Society of Physics Students (SPS) is a professional association explicitly designed for students. Membership, through

collegiate chapters, is open to anyone interested in physics. The only requirement for membership is that you be interested in physics. Besides physics majors, our members include majors in chemistry, computer science, engineering, geology, mathematics, medicine, and other fields. MiTeGen and Society of Physics Students Undergraduate Poster Prize. This prize was established to encourage young, undergraduate researchers in the field of crystallography and recognizes the best undergraduate poster presentation. The winner will receive a $250 cash prize sponsored by the Society of Physics Students and MiTegen. All student abstract submissions will be automatically be eligible.


Within SPS is housed Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honor society, which elects members on the basis of outstanding academic achievement. This unique two-in-one society operates within the American Institute of Physics, an umbrella organization for ten other professional science societies. 

Undergraduate Reception - sponsored by the Society of Physics Students
All undergraduates and their mentors, as well as others who might be interested, are invited to join us for a reception highlighting undergraduate research. Undergraduates presenting posters at the meeting are encouraged to also present them here in this special undergraduate-focused session. In addition to poster presentations, Dr. Cora Lind-Kovacs will be giving a short talk with introductory remarks by ACA President Martha Teeter. Refreshments will be provided; pre-registration is mandatory. Event will be held on Sunday 25th May, 12:00pm - 1:30 pm, Albuquerque Convention Center.

Deadline for Conference Hotel Rates - April 30, 2014

The ACA has secured a limited number of rooms for students and postdoctoral associates at a reduced rate at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.


Room Sharing

Room sharing is an option for those looking to save money on their hotel accommodations.This service is strictly for facilitating contact between roommates and does not guarantee availability. Once contact is made, attendees will still need to reserve a room directly with the hotel. If you wish to be listed as wanting to share a room, please send an email containing your name, institute, contact details and gender. Once you have found a roommate, please contact us again to let us know, and we will remove you from the listing.
