2020 ACA Logo Contest

ACA: The Structural Science Society Needs a Logo!

At its most recent meeting, August 28, 2020, Council decided that it is time to make our organization inviting to all scientists determining atomic-scale structure, not just those practicing crystallography.

This group includes, but is certainly not limited to, scientists engaged in electron microscopy, PDF analysis, fiber diffraction, and small angle scattering. We recognize the deep and long history associated with the name “American Crystallographic Association” and want to honor that history by adding the tag line “The Structural Science Society” to ACA. To accompany this change, we need to develop a new logo for our society.

The current logo was designed by Helen Berman about 35 years ago. Having seen the great graphics contributions made by members more recently, we want your help in designing this logo. Thus, we are holding a contest to find a logo concept.

We are not placing any constraints on the design other than it should include the text “ACA: The Structural Science Society.” The goal is that the new logo should unify all structural science disciplines under the umbrella of the ACA. Submitted concepts need not be of professional quality; Council may commission a graphics artist to polish the logo design before release.

Please submit your entries to [email protected]. Council will choose the new logo concept from those entries. As an incentive, we will be offering a $100 prize for the winning logo concept.

The contest is open to any member in good standing and all entries must be submitted prior to 11:59 PM EST on November 30, 2020.
