ACA Announces the Class of 2026 Fellows

The American Crystallographic Association is pleased to recognize its newest class of ACA Fellows. Election as an ACA Fellow is one of the Association's highest honors and recognizes members whose contributions to the advancement of crystallography or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished. Fellows may be recognized for excellence in research, teaching, technological innovation, service to professional societies, leadership in academia, industry, or government, or for outstanding efforts in communicating science to broader audiences.

Each year, new Fellows are elected by the existing body of ACA Fellows in recognition of their significant and lasting impact on the crystallographic community. The ACA is proud to celebrate the accomplishments of this year's honorees and thank them for their dedication, leadership, and service to our field.

Please join us in congratulating the ACA Class of 2026 Fellows:

Jeanette A. Krause, University of Cincinnati, is recognized for nearly four decades of distinguished service to the crystallographic community. A continuous ACA member since 1989, she has served in numerous leadership roles within the Association, including committee chair, SIG officer, session organizer, and program chair. Beyond ACA, she helped establish and lead the highly successful Service Crystallography at the Advanced Light Source (SCrALS) program, which provided diffraction data collection services to researchers at more than 100 institutions worldwide and contributed to thousands of scientific discoveries. Through her dedication to crystallographic education, mentorship, and community building, she has inspired generations of structural scientists and strengthened the field at both the institutional and international levels.

 

 

Krystle J. McLaughlin, Vassar College, is recognized for her outstanding contributions to structural biology education, mentorship, and professional service. Her research program advances understanding of biologically important macromolecular systems, including studies related to the spread of antibiotic resistance, while her innovative teaching and undergraduate research initiatives have expanded opportunities for students to engage in structural science. Within ACA, she has provided exceptional leadership through the BioMAC SIG, the Communications Committee, and initiatives focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Her commitment to education, outreach, and fostering an inclusive scientific community has had a lasting impact on both ACA and the broader structural science community.

 

 

Joseph H. Reibenspies, Texas A&M University, is recognized for a career spanning more than four decades of leadership in service crystallography, education, and scientific publishing. As Associate Director of the Texas A&M X-ray Laboratory, he transformed a single-instrument facility into one of the nation's premier diffraction laboratories while mentoring countless students, researchers, and crystallographers. A founding organizer of the ACA Service SIG, former Secretary of the U.S. National Committee for Crystallography, ACA Summer School instructor, and current Co-editor of Acta Crystallographica Section E, Dr. Reibenspies has devoted his career to advancing crystallographic practice and supporting the global crystallographic community. His scholarly contributions include more than 500 publications and the co-authorship of the reference text Principles and Applications of Powder Diffraction.

 

 

Eric W. Reinheimer, Rigaku Americas, is recognized for his distinguished contributions to crystallographic research, education, publishing, and professional service. His scholarly work spans small-molecule crystallography, crystal engineering, and solid-state chemistry, resulting in a substantial body of influential publications. Equally notable is his commitment to training and community development through crystallography workshops, short courses, and educational programs that have broadened access to diffraction methods and strengthened technical expertise across the field. As Co-editor of Acta Crystallographica Section C and an active leader within ACA, Dr. Reinheimer has played a significant role in maintaining scientific excellence, advancing crystallographic publishing, and fostering the next generation of structural scientists.

 

These distinguished scientists have each made important contributions to crystallography and its applications, helping to advance our science, strengthen our community, and inspire the next generation of crystallographers.

As ACA Fellows, they join a distinguished group of members whose careers have had a lasting impact on the field. Congratulations to the ACA Class of 2026 Fellows.
