ACA Leadership Track

The ACA Leadership Track is a professional development pathway for members who are interested in becoming more engaged in the American Crystallographic Association and exploring future leadership opportunities within the Society.

Designed to be inclusive and accessible, the Leadership Track helps members learn how the ACA operates, connect with current leaders, and discover meaningful ways to contribute—whether through Scientific Interest Groups (SIGs), committees, or elected service.

Who the Leadership Track Is For

The Leadership Track is open to current ACA members at all career stages, including:

  • Early-career scientists exploring service and leadership opportunities
  • Members interested in deeper involvement beyond meeting attendance
  • Those curious about how SIGs, committees, and Council work together
  • Individuals considering future leadership or officer roles

You do not need prior leadership experience to participate.

If you’re not yet a member, joining the ACA is the first step to participating—and a great way to become part of a vibrant, international community focused on structural science.

What You’ll Gain

Members in the Leadership Track benefit from:

  • Greater visibility within the ACA community
  • Connections with SIG officers and ACA leadership
  • Mentorship and informal guidance from experienced volunteers
  • A clearer understanding of ACA governance and service pathways
  • A professional service experience that can be highlighted on a CV or résumé

Participation is voluntary and non-binding—it does not require running for office.

Why Leadership Matters at ACA

The Leadership Track strengthens the Association by:

  • Building a diverse and sustainable pipeline of future leaders
  • Encouraging broader participation across SIGs and committees
  • Improving communication and continuity within ACA governance
  • Supporting member engagement during both meeting and non-meeting years

Leadership Track participants may be invited to special networking or recognition opportunities at ACA-affiliated events, providing a chance to meet peers and leaders in an informal, welcoming setting.
