For decades, U.S. representation in the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) was coordinated through the National Academy of Sciences. When the NAS withdrew from the IUCr and dissolved the U.S. National Committee for Crystallography effective January 1, 2026, the American Union of Crystallography (AUC) was formed to ensure continuity of U.S. representation.
The American Crystallographic Association (ACA), through its U.S. National Division, supported this transition to preserve the United States’ voice in international crystallography. This connection is essential for maintaining U.S. participation in IUCr governance, protecting legacy resources, and sustaining international collaboration, education, and research opportunities for the U.S. crystallography community.
