Nobuyuki (Nobu) Yamamoto, Ph.D., is a senior researcher and the director of the chemical crystallography laboratory at the University of Oklahoma (OU), and he started his career at OU in February 2025. Before this position, he worked as a postdoctoral associate in a crystallography facility at Indiana University for 2.5 years, where he collaborated on research projects using single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction. Currently, he mainly focuses on single-crystal X-ray crystallography and collaborates with internal and external researchers. He also provides training and guidance related to the topic. In addition, he mentors an intern at his facility. Recently, he was invited to serve as a guest speaker at the American Chemical Society local meeting, representing an instrument manager, and spoke to college students in STEM fields about the role of crystallographers in research. As a candidate for Small Molecule SIG Chair-elect, Nobu’s goal is to devote his efforts to fostering interest in crystallography among young scientists and to connecting with researchers who have or have not experienced the subject, expanding our community. Nobu also plans to participate in outreach and host workshop events related to small molecule crystallography to support and motivate beginners and advanced users.
